PurePod Greystone, a stay that is all-glass

When it comes to unique and creative travel experiences, we are often encouraged to think "outside the square", but when it comes to a PurePod, this motto goes out the window. Designed to give guests a ‘pure’ experience, this is one to add to your must-stay bucket list.

Just an hour north of Christchurch, you will find the scenic and inviting grounds of Greystone Wines. With a bit of navigation around hills, cliffs and fields you will reach the PurePod car park, where your adventure begins.

The trek is about 700m to the pod, so it is best to take everything that you need with you in the one go. The walk is a little steep in parts, but once on top of the hill, the panoramic views are just a taste of what is to come.

Once you spot the little glass house nestled at the foot of a hillside you know you're on the right track.

Take off your shoes, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. As you step inside the first thing you may notice is the glass floor, looking straight through to the ground, and as you look up the sky is your ceiling.

Designed to take the concept of glamping to the next level, this is an experience where you have all the comforts of luxurious accommodation with all the perks of being among nature. The glass walls, floor and ceiling, are unlike anything else, creating your own private glasshouse.

The pod has everything you need with a comfy bed to lie back and watch the stars from, a kitchenette and fridge to store an indulgent cheese platter and wines, and the toilet and shower both boasting open views of the property with the option to use blinds if you so require.

Treat yourself with the dinner and breakfast package, full of seasonal goodies all ready for you to cook and enjoy. On this particular stay, there was a tasting board of cheeses, olives, relish and crackers as a starter and juicy local beef steak ready for the fry pan, roasted veggies and salad ready for dinner. Breakfast was a feast of granola, berries coulis and yoghurt with a cup of tea or coffee.

Greystone Wines provide a wide selection of reds and whites, with the pinot noir and sauvignon blanc absolute standouts. Tours of the winery are also available with more details on how to book here.

There is phone reception. However, this is one of those places where it is nice to just unplug, watch nature and do nothing but unwind.

PurePod have five properties in total which are located anywhere from 1-2.5hrs away from Christchurch and each with their individual charm and style. Make sure you pack your camera as this trip is a one of a kind one that you will want to share with all your family and friends.
