Dine: Salt Meats Cheese | Dee Why

Since 2012, the Salt Meats Cheese brand has taken Sydney by storm, offering diners a fresh and modern take on Italian classics. Earlier this year the empire expanded and opened its doors in the balmy Northern beaches suburb of Dee Why, the biggest restaurant to open for the group to date.

Background

Founded by childhood mates Edoardo Perlo and Stefano de Blasi founded Salt Meats Cheese as a place to experience and bring that spirit of Italian dining to Australia with long tables, grazing boards, and a place where family and friends can gather to feast.

Where?

Salt Meats Cheese Dee Why is located at the base of the recently constructed Lighthouse by Meriton, embracing its Italian roots beyond the menu. The interior dining space is decked out with recycled terracotta tiles, large windows, potted palm trees and an open kitchen with a roaring pizza oven, blending together traditional Italian style with a coastal vibe.

Food

As a starter, you cannot go past the creamy and indulgent burrata with sundried tomato pesto- perfect for dipping in the side of olive crackers.

For a true grazing, dining experience order the antipasto board. The generous board is a cornucopia of cured meats, soft cheeses and pickled veggies, perfect with a housemade cocktail or one of the many Italian wines from the cellar.

Cheese fans make sure you check out the cheese wheel pasta experience available on Wednesday evenings. Select from three different types of cheeses and watch the interactive table-side assemble take place!

The half-hollowed wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano is splashed with brandy, set alright and flambéed inside. Once melted the cheese is taken out of the wheel and added to the freshly cooked pasta, mixed and served with a topping of crispy sage and walnuts.

This dish ticks all the boxes. Uncomplicated flavours, exceptional produce and a dash of entertainment!

If pizzas are more your thing you will not be disappointed with the diverse menu of vegetarian, meaty and classic inspired combinations. Catering to all tastebuds and dietary requirements, vegetarian pizza's can be made vegan by using dairy-free mozzarella.

Whether you make the most of a late summer's eve dining outside with beers and burrata or snuggling up inside with a glass of Sangiovese and a bowl of gnocchi, Salt Meats Cheese is a comfort food haven any time of year.
